Health Needs of People with a Disability

It comes as no surprise to learn that a new report from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) that people with severe or profound disability rely up to 10 times as heavily on health services, such as general practitioners, as Australians without a disability. New Health Teams

Two new health care teams are now available to people aged 16-50 years with multiple disabilities living in Sydney’s west and Southern Highlands.

The Disability Assessment and Rehabilitation Team for Young People (DARTYP) supports people with disabilities such as Spina Bifida, intellectual disability, Muscular Dystrophy, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, Motor Neurone Diseases and acquired disabilities such as brain and spinal injuries. Factsheets for people with intellectual disability

The NSW Council on Intellectual Disability have a new range of health factsheets for people with intellectual disability, their families and carers. They’re grouped by life stages, keeping health, finding the right help, dealing with health professionals, health problems, healthy carers, sexual health and rights and complaints.

Change Your World

Video camera

A video competition promoting a healthy lifestyle has been won by Arranounbai School at Allambie Heights.

The challenge, set by the Northern Beaches Health Promotion team, was to film a 30 second TV advertisement on smart celebrating, healthy eating or active living.
