Funding for vital equipment for people with a disability has always been a battle in NSW. A petition is now circulating which urges the NSW State Government to reconsider the funding arrangements for the Program of Appliances for Disabled People (PADP). Under Article 20 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, NSW people with a disability have a right to appropriate equipment, aids and appliances and other relevant assistive technologies, as well as personal care assistance, to provide the greatest possible level of independence and autonomy.
Funding is now available for people with a disability working in the NSW public sector. The Assistive Technology and Equipment Program is a NSW government initiative which provides funding for assistive technology or other appropriate workplace equipment for people with a disability.
