Factsheets for parents

Three new factsheets are available to help families with some of the behavioural and social issues associated with having a child with a disability – providing support for brothers and sisters, enhancing social skills for children with a disability and using visual supports to help manage your child’s behaviour. Sibling support – explores the common concerns of siblings including: strong feelings – such as anger, jealousy, guilt, anxiety, embarrassment and loneliness; different sibling relationship; pressure to achieve and be the ‘good’ child; extra responsibilities; the reactions of others; and concerns about the future. The factsheet includes a host of parents tips including open communication, information, quality time, realistic expectations, skills for coping and independence and social support networks.
