The campaign for a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is gathering strength.
On 31 July, the final report of the Productivity Commission will be delivered to the government. In response, a nation-wide event called a ‘DisabiliTEA’ will be held on Tuesday 2 August. Read more: Every Australian Counts DisabiliTEA
Warringah Council is hosting a forum to discuss the National Disability Insurance Scheme next Wednesday 18 May from 7 pm – 8.30 pm. The event will be held at the Council Chambers, Civic Centre, 725 Pittwater Rd, Dee Why. Read more: National Disability Insurance Scheme forum
Family Advocacy NSW is spearheading a campaign for a Supported Living Fund (SLF) to enable men and women with disability to establish a home of their own and a lifestyle of their choosing using a combination of paid and informal supports.
A SLF would provide the first opportunity in decades for people with intellectual disability in NSW to receive state funds to assist them to move into their own home at a time when their family is NOT in crisis and has capacity to support the transition. Read more: Supported Living Fund Campaign
The on-line advocacy group GetUp is seeking suggestions about its next cause. Currently outperforming all other ideas is the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) campaign.
An NDIS would provide ‘cover’ for anyone who has or aquires a disability in Australia – providing much-needed certainty around equipment, support, care and therapy. Read more: GetUp and National Disability Insurance Scheme
