Arts Activated Conference 2012

There’s a growing number of inclusive activities in the Australian arts scene, promoted and nurtured by the fabulous Accessible Arts group.

The Arts Activated Conference 2012 will be held 30-31 October at Chatswood on Sydney’s northside. The call is now out for proposals for papers, performances or workshops that address this year’s theme – Desire and Destination. Read more: Arts Activated Conference 2012

Arts Grants

Cultivate is a new professional development fund for Australian artists with disability supported by the Australia Council for the Arts and Arts Access Australia.

By providing seed funding, Cultivate will support artists with a disability who want to develop their professional career. It will also help artists with disability compete for funding in general arts funding programs. Read more: Arts Grants

Random Acts of Kindness

We regularly hear stories about able-bodied people taking up disability parking spots and public buildings that are anything but universal in their design, but a new project may shed some light on some of the good things that happen every day.

A new Sydney civic art project called Acts of Kindness 2011 is being developed by UK artist Michael Landy. He is calling for everyday stories of kindness that you have seen or experienced in Sydney. Read more: Random Acts of Kindness

South West Expo

On Saturday 6 August, Cerebral Palsy Alliance is holding a Sports, Technology, Arts and Recreation Expo at Wetherill Park.  The Expo will offer demonstrations, information stalls and representatives from many sporting organisations. Read more: South West Expo

Sculpture by the Sea

Hands on a grooved stone surfaceThis year Sculpture by the Sea, one of Sydney’s favourite annual outdoor events, will run a series of tactile tours for people with low vision and people with an intellectual disability.

Guided tours through the exhibition site of Mark’s Park will encourage people to interact and engage with a series of artworks that are located in accessible areas. Read more: Sculpture by the Sea

Carnivale ARTES 2010

The annual Carnivale ARTES exhibition is on again at Hornsby  on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 September and everyone is welcome.  For the first time, it will be held in the new fully accessible Gallery ARTES on the corner of George and Florence Streets, Hosrnsby. Read more: Carnivale ARTES 2010
