That’s what I look like !!

Have you ever seen a photo of yourself from the side and realised, “That’s what I look like!”? Perhaps (like me) you have seen a photo that has captured the back of your head and realised that you are thinning on top. For most people, we see ourselves in a mirror everyday and become well acquainted with what we look like. However, what if the house you lived in didn’t have a mirror at your level and you had gone your entire life without being tall enough to reach one?

Swimming in the deep end

Have you been able to get your child in or near water? Does it terrify you that they would drown due to their inability to right themselves if they were in trouble?

Tormented from Trying

It’s funny how the sole purpose of a memory is to serve as a reminder to trust your instincts in the future … When Daniel was about 3 we were advised that his hips would develop incorrectly if we didn’t put him in a plaster cast from his hips to his ankles for 6 weeks.

Imagine putting both of your child’s legs into a position similar to that of a wishbone of a chicken, and then cementing them into a plaster cast for 6 weeks. It sounds almost barbaric, and even still we went ahead with it.

Complacency Kills

When they were young Daniel and William always took a bath together. It was something any young family would do with young children. The fact that Daniel had CP really was not a consideration as either my wife or I would be within arms reach of Daniel.

After a couple of years I became complacent with the routine of bathing and the relative safety the situation provided based upon the fact that nothing had happened so far.
